This week we jump into a 10 week unit. Our school is sponsoring some new curriculum called "Engage NY" across several grade levels. It does a terrific job of preparing for Common Core as well as building cross-curricular skills.
What this means for homework: the first month centers around Inside Out and Back Again. There are not huge amounts of reading, but students will be most successful if they expect and do 10-15 minutes of homework a night: rereading a section, doing further reading, taking notes, or finishing a small assignment.
